Section: Features, Lists, Handhelds, iPhone & iPod Touch, Updates, Apple App Store It’s our second edition of the App Store gaming update! This week wasn’t as bad to put together as last week’s, though the insane amounts of turkey didn’t help things. In this edition of the update we added two new sections entitled: “What’s Free” and “Games you might like.“ I won’t bother explaining to you the complex definitions of these sections, as I’m sure you folks can figure them out. Since we are st

The Genius Bar Rocks!

This past weekend was pretty stressful, from a computing standpoint.  During my visit to see the relatives down in North Carolina, my precious MacBook Pro decided to take a nosedive.  I put it to sleep one evening but when I went to check my email the next morning, the screen never came back on.  Reboot…nothing, reboot again…nothing.  After some scrambling on the Internet for a little help, I came across a suggestion to reset the PRAM (otherwise known as parameter RAM).  This is done by invok

Joost Arrives On The iPhone

There’s no doubt that Joost turned out to be a bit of a flop when it comes to the whole IPTV thing.  Hulu on the other hand has become a massive success, and Netflix streaming on my computer or Xbox 360 gets me so excited I can hardly contain myself.  So what’s left for Joost? The iPhone of course.  Yup, they’ve released an iPhone app that’ll allow streaming video over WiFi.  I downloaded, installed and was once again let down.  I can hardly get a video playing and when I due it jumps around,

So why develop for the iPhone

Nick commented on my earlier post claiming that the cost of a development machine (a Mac) is simply too much to sway him to develop for the iPhone. This mentality ignores the principle that good apps on the iPhone MAKE money. CONNECTED DATA writes about why they develop for the iPhone: When the pitcher releases the ball a batter has to decide where they will swing. If they wait too long the ball will be in the catcher’s mitt before they decide. The same logic is why we are developing for the

Fring lays off 10, shows Skype’s partnership with iSkoot pays

So Fring goes from 50 to 40 personnel. Big whoop. This is less a sign of trouble than of prudence. While the Fring layoff surprised Jan Geirnaert, Om Malik thinks it looks weak. It looks capital-conserving to me in light of the new economy. Skype’s clout matters in this space. Fring and EQO and iSkoot all courted Skype executives for a partnership. Only iSkoot got the nod, which led to their becoming the software behind Skype’s profitable 3 Skypephone and profitable relationships with carri

2nd Gen iPod Touch has 27% faster CPU

In an interesting piece from UMPC Portal it appears that the ARM CPU in the 2nd Generation of iPod Touches is running at a 27% faster clock than the old touch, and both the iPhone EDGE and iPhone 3G. This is evidenced by anybody using the new iPod Touch through the much faster GUI. Although it’s possible for Apple to release a firmware update that clocks the other devices up to the faster clock, it could result in all kinds of issues. Any CPU running at faster than standard clock means greater
